Some WhatsApp users have taken to social media to express concern after noticing that unsaved contacts appear able to view their Status updates, raising fresh questions about privacy on the platform.
Several users on X described the experience as “unnecessary” and “uncomfortable,” with many wondering whether there had been a change in privacy settings or if the issue was a technical glitch.
In response to the growing concern, WhatsApp moved to reassure users that nothing has changed regarding its privacy system.
The platform maintained that messages, calls, and Status updates remain protected by end-to-end encryption, and that this protection has not been altered.
“Your personal messages, calls and Statuses are protected by end-to-end encryption and that has not changed,” the company stated in a response posted on its official X page.
The clarification comes as users continue to debate how Status visibility works and whether recent observations reflect platform updates or user misunderstanding.
