ADC Names Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku Abubakar’s Running Mate for 2027 Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The development means Amaechi will run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the party’s presidential ticket.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, and shared on its official X page. The party said Amaechi’s selection followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the country.

According to the ADC, the decision also followed the conclusion of its presidential primary election, in which Amaechi emerged as runner-up. The party described his nomination as part of efforts to strengthen its electoral strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.

In its statement, the party said the Atiku-Amaechi ticket represents a union of “two tested statesmen” with the experience and national reach required to address Nigeria’s challenges. It added that the partnership goes beyond politics and reflects a shared commitment to national renewal.

The ADC highlighted Amaechi’s political background, noting his experience as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation. It said few political figures possess such a broad combination of legislative and executive experience in Nigeria.

The party expressed confidence that the alliance would strengthen its coalition ahead of the elections, describing the ticket as a “national platform” capable of uniting different regions and political interests. It added that the ADC is prepared to govern, unite the country, and deliver results focused on economic recovery, security, job creation, and national cohesion.
