Aiyedatiwa Highlights Security Gains, Reveals Foiled Government House Bomb Plot

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disclosed that security operatives recently thwarted an alleged plot to bomb the Ondo State Government House, describing the development as one of several successes recorded in the fight against insecurity across the state.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the governor said intelligence reports received about three to four months ago alerted security agencies to suspicious activities involving a group of youths allegedly planning an attack on the seat of government.

According to Aiyedatiwa, the suspects initially checked into a hotel before relocating to a rented apartment. Acting on intelligence, security operatives later raided the location and reportedly recovered materials and equipment believed to be connected to the planned operation.

He explained that officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Amotekun Corps carried out the operation, leading to the arrest of the suspects, who remain in custody. The governor added that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the alleged plot and uncover the full extent of the plan.

Aiyedatiwa said the incident underscored the critical role of intelligence gathering and cooperation among security agencies. He noted that many of the government’s security efforts often go unnoticed by the public, becoming visible only when there is a security breach or lapse.

The governor also revealed that South-West governors are strengthening regional security through intelligence sharing and collaboration, particularly under the Amotekun initiative. He further welcomed the conviction of four individuals linked to the June 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, describing the judgment as a victory for justice, the rule of law and the victims of the attack.
