The First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has expressed satisfaction with the remarkable recovery of 10-year-old Chiziterem, who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardians. She described his improving condition as evidence of the commitment of the medical personnel attending to him, as well as the prayers, compassion and support he has received from members of the public.
Chiziterem, whose case attracted widespread attention after a viral video showed him with serious burns and injuries allegedly inflicted by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, within Idemili North Local Government Area, is currently undergoing treatment under the protection of the Anambra State Government.
During her second visit to the hospital where the child is receiving care, Mrs. Soludo received updates from medical personnel indicating that his condition remains stable and continues to improve.
Assessing the boy’s progress, the First Lady expressed delight at his recovery and commended the healthcare workers for their dedication and professionalism.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, she also called on residents to remain vigilant and report cases of child abuse and neglect, stressing that every child deserves a safe environment and the opportunity to grow and succeed.
She said, “I paid another visit to young Chiziterem today to monitor his recovery and encourage his family. I am delighted to see the remarkable progress he has made and how much stronger he is compared to my previous visit.
“His steady recovery reflects the dedication of the medical team, as well as the overwhelming love, support and prayers from compassionate individuals.
“As I promised, I will continue to closely monitor his wellbeing to ensure that he receives all the care and assistance required until he fully recovers and is reunited with his family.
“Every child deserves protection, safety and the opportunity to thrive. Let us continue to speak out against child abuse and neglect wherever they occur. Residents can report emergencies in Anambra State by calling 112 or 5111.”
