Atiku Mourns Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, Condoles WTO Chief and Family

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his condolences to the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, following the death of her younger brother, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo.

In a message shared on his X account on Monday, Atiku sympathised with the former Nigerian finance minister and her family, describing the loss as deeply painful and offering prayers for strength and comfort during the difficult period.

The former vice president acknowledged the emotional burden of losing a close family member, stating that he and his family were keeping Okonjo-Iweala and her loved ones in their thoughts and prayers. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late prince’s soul.

Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, a member of the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family of the Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, passed away on May 30, 2026. News of his death was officially announced on Sunday by Palace Secretary, Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi.

Reacting to the loss, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, described the late prince as a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother and dedicated uncle whose passing has left a significant void within the royal family and the wider kingdom.
