Don Jazzy Reflects on School-Day Rejections, Reveals How Success Helped Him Heal

Music producer and Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has opened up about the emotional impact of repeated rejection by female schoolmates during his secondary school years, revealing how the experience affected his self-esteem and followed him into adulthood.

Speaking on an episode of the Keeping It Real With Jima podcast, the music executive, whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, admitted that he struggled with confidence as a teenager and was frequently turned down by girls he approached for relationships.

According to him, the constant rejection left a lasting psychological effect, despite his eventual success in the music industry. He said the experience remained with him for years and became something he needed to confront and overcome.

Don Jazzy explained that after establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s most successful music executives, he decided to reconnect with some of the girls who had rejected him during his school days as part of his healing process.

However, he disclosed that when he eventually found many of them, most were already married. Despite that, he said seeing them again and reflecting on how far he had come helped him deal with the emotional wounds created by those early experiences.

The renowned producer noted that music played a significant role in changing the trajectory of his life, adding that meeting his former schoolmates and recognising his achievements gave him a sense of closure and helped restore the confidence that had once been shaken by repeated rejection.
