Davido Uses FIFA World Cup Countdown Stage to Demand Freedom for Abducted Oyo Pupils

Afrobeats superstar Davido turned his appearance at the FIFA World Cup countdown concert into a powerful advocacy moment by drawing attention to the plight of pupils and teachers recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, took to the stage wearing a customised outfit designed to honour the victims and raise awareness about the ongoing security crisis affecting communities in Nigeria.

Davido’s black leather jacket was decorated with green circular buttons bearing the names of the abducted students and teachers. The names of those still being held captive were written in white, while the names of victims who lost their lives during the ordeal appeared in red.

He also wore a white T-shirt emblazoned with the word “NIGERIA,” while the back of his jacket carried the bold message, “BRING THEM HOME,” reinforcing his call for urgent action to secure the release of those still in captivity.

Moments before taking the stage, Davido expressed sadness over the situation and offered prayers for the affected families. He also voiced concern about the pace of rescue efforts and appealed to both federal and state authorities to intensify their intervention.

“Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed,” he said. The award-winning singer added that the victims had yet to be rescued and stressed the need for swift government action, noting that Nigeria was facing significant challenges that required collective attention and support.
