Dickson Boasts Superior Credentials Over Obi, Kwankwaso in 2027 Race

Senator Seriake Dickson has stated that he is more qualified to contest for Nigeria’s presidency than prominent opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, but said he deliberately chose not to seek the nation’s highest office.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, Dickson addressed issues surrounding the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), its leadership, and its relationship with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former Bayelsa State governor stressed that the NDC voluntarily offered its platform to Obi without demanding any payment, noting that neither Obi nor his running mate paid money to secure their nominations as the party’s sole presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

Dickson argued that suggestions that the party was benefiting from Obi’s presence were misplaced, insisting that it was the NDC that provided the platform and opportunity for the former Labour Party presidential candidate. He maintained that the party deserved recognition for its role in building an alternative political movement.

He also dismissed reports of a crisis within the NDC, describing Obi as a valued member of the party and affirming that both sides continue to work together harmoniously. According to him, tensions often stem from supporters who publicly back Obi while simultaneously criticizing the party and its leadership.

Dickson further revealed that several politicians had sought the NDC platform before Obi joined the party, emphasizing that the organisation should be respected for the groundwork it has done ahead of the 2027 elections. While reiterating that he believes he possesses the credentials to run for president, he maintained that his decision not to contest was a personal choice and not a reflection of any lack of qualification.
