Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Enugu State have launched an investigation into a self-styled prophet, Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, also known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, over alleged fraud involving N70,391,600.
The case was initiated following a petition by Okey Uwakwe, who accused the cleric of posing as a man of God and defrauding church members through fabricated spiritual claims and false promises of supernatural powers.
Uwakwe alleged that the suspect promised to bring back his brother who had been abroad since 1997 and also claimed he could make his childless sister-in-law conceive after 15 years. Based on these claims, he said he paid N6,231,400 and N3,251,200 respectively.
He further alleged that the prophet deceived members into believing he had won N33 billion in a lottery scheme and encouraged financial contributions in anticipation of dividends, through which he contributed N3,349,000. He also added that he paid N500,000 for a supposed N1 billion rice processing machine investment, bringing his total loss to N13,331,600.
Investigations reportedly revealed additional complaints from other members of the ministry, who claimed they were pressured into various “spiritual investment” schemes. These included miracle stickers, spiritual dragon items, and “holy ghost thunder” products sold for N38,000 each, with members allegedly purchasing about 1,000 units.
The EFCC stated that the suspect’s alleged activities involved a pattern of selling religious-themed items under the guise of prosperity and miraculous gains. Ajuluchukwucheya is currently under investigation and is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
