Ekiti Declares Work-Free Friday Ahead of Governorship Election

The Ekiti State Government has declared Friday a work-free day for public and civil servants across the state ahead of the governorship election scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, who disclosed that Governor Biodun Oyebanji approved the holiday to enable workers travel to their respective voting locations and adequately prepare for the election.

According to the government, the decision is intended to encourage greater participation in the electoral process by giving eligible voters sufficient time to reach their polling areas before voting begins.

A circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishment, Dr. Funke Ajibola, clarified that the work-free day does not extend to personnel providing essential services across the state.

Ajibola stated that hospitals, health centres, fire service departments and other critical government agencies are exempted from the directive and are expected to continue operations without interruption throughout the period.

She further directed heads of exempted institutions to make adequate duty arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery, while Chief Executive Officers and Accounting Officers were instructed to comply fully with the circular and give it wide publicity within their respective organisations.
