Oshiomhole Alleges Irregular NNPC Appointment Linked to Akpabio’s Daughter

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has alleged that the daughter of Senate President Godswill Akpabio secured a “juicy position” at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) without following due process.

He made the claim during an appearance on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, where he also defended his comments on the Senate’s handling of matters involving NNPC and a bench warrant issued against former Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.

Oshiomhole alleged that Senate President Akpabio had a personal interest in the oil company and claimed that Kyari facilitated the appointment of his daughter. He insisted that the process did not follow standard recruitment procedures within the organisation.

According to him, the appointment was not carried out through the normal interview and recruitment process. He also alleged that nepotism had become widespread within NNPC, accusing both past and present officials of placing relatives in various positions within the organisation.

He, however, stated that there was nothing wrong with relatives of public officials working in NNPC, provided they were qualified and recruited through due process. Oshiomhole maintained that his concern was specifically about appointments that bypassed proper procedures and merit-based selection.

The senator also addressed criticism surrounding the Senate’s reported stance on the arrest warrant issued against Kyari, insisting that the legislative action fell within the constitutional powers of the National Assembly.
