Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have shot dead two suspected kidnappers and recovered a firearm, cash and other exhibits during a follow-up operation connected to the rescue of an abducted victim in the state.
The command said the operation was carried out by its Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across Ogun State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command disclosed that the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State.
According to the statement, the police immediately activated the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources aimed at securing the victim’s freedom and arresting those responsible for the crime.
The command explained that sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and pressure mounted on the criminal gang eventually led to the victim’s safe release on June 18 without any injuries.
Following the successful rescue, police operatives intensified efforts to track down members of the kidnapping syndicate.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives traced members of the gang to their hideout within the state. On sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest.
“The operatives responded appropriately, resulting in a gun battle during which two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
The police further disclosed that a search of one of the deceased suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, while additional items recovered from the scene included an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and a cash sum of ₦2.2 million believed to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The command noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and deepen investigations into the operations of the criminal gang.
Commending the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers for their bravery, professionalism and operational efficiency.
He stated that the success of the operation underscores the command’s commitment to relentlessly pursuing kidnappers and other violent criminals across the state.
Ojajuni also reassured residents that the command would continue to employ intelligence-driven policing and tactical strategies to safeguard lives and property.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in combating crime.
