Police Rescue 11 Kidnap Victims in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued 11 persons who were abducted while working on their farms in Ogbido Community, Iyahmo, located in Edo North.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, explaining that the rescue operation was launched after the police received a distress call about the incident.

According to the statement, operatives from the Iyahmo Police Division, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, teamed up with local vigilantes and hunters to track down the kidnappers in the surrounding forest.

During the operation, the security team engaged the kidnappers in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Faced with the superior firepower and coordinated tactical response of the operatives, the criminals abandoned their captives and fled into the forest.

The victims rescued unharmed include nine men and two women. They were identified as Braimah Destiny (46), Aruna Idris (38), Abudu Sharafadeem (38), Godwin Elizabeth (28), James Favour (28), Nonso Ana (30), Abdulilia Ozigi (26), Lambo James (27), Wasia Abdul (48), Lucky Emmanuel (24), and Suleman Aliyu (25).

The police spokesperson stated that the rescued victims were taken to a medical facility for examination before being reunited with their families. She added that security operatives have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, praised the bravery and swift action of the police officers, local vigilantes, and hunters whose collaborative efforts led to the successful rescue of the victims.

He assured residents that the command has strengthened security operations across the area and remains committed to safeguarding lives and property. The commissioner also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
