Ruben Amorim Poised to Take Over at AC Milan After United Exit

Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly close to returning to management after reaching an agreement to become the next head coach of AC Milan. The 41-year-old has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in January and is now expected to take charge at San Siro.

Amorim is set to sign an initial two-year contract with the Italian giants, with reports indicating the agreement could run until 2028 and include an option for a further season. He had initially planned to take a break from coaching following his departure from Old Trafford, but the opportunity to manage the seven-time European champions is said to have changed his decision.

The financial package reportedly includes a net salary of €3.5 million per season, along with performance-related bonuses tied to trophy wins and qualification for the UEFA Champions League, a competition AC Milan have missed in recent seasons.

AC Milan are said to have briefly considered Al-Ahli manager Matthias Jaissle, but Amorim’s availability as a free agent made him a more attractive option, allowing the club to avoid paying a release clause.

Although the agreement is close to completion, it still requires final approval from Gerry Cardinale, owner of RedBird Capital, before it is formally announced. Once approved, Amorim is expected to travel to Milan to finalise the deal and begin preparations for the new season.

His swift return to management also carries financial implications for Manchester United, which had been set to pay a significant compensation package following his departure. By accepting a new role quickly, Amorim is expected to forgo a large portion of his outstanding settlement. The move comes as United continue rebuilding under the guidance of Michael Carrick, following a noticeable improvement in recent performances.
