Tems Joins Global Music Icons for Historic Obama Presidential Center Opening

Nigerian music star Tems has been named among the headline performers for the grand opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, further strengthening her reputation as one of Africa’s most influential musical exports on the global stage. The Grammy Award-winning singer is the only Nigerian artiste selected to perform at the landmark event.

Tems will share the stage with an impressive lineup of internationally renowned performers, including John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, and U2 members Bono and The Edge. The highly anticipated ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 18 and is expected to attract global attention.

The event marks the official unveiling of the Obama Presidential Center, a major civic and cultural campus located on Chicago’s South Side. Hosted by former United States President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, the ceremony is designed to celebrate leadership, civic engagement, and community development.

According to the Obama Foundation, the invite-only event will feature live performances, storytelling sessions, and reflections on the values that shaped the Obama presidency. To ensure wider participation, the ceremony will also be livestreamed globally, allowing audiences around the world to join in the celebration.

The foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Valerie Jarrett, described the occasion as a unique and inspiring gathering. She said the ceremony would be filled with music, performances, and hope, adding that organisers aim to encourage people to believe in their ability to create meaningful change within their communities.

For Tems, the invitation represents another significant achievement in a career that has seen her rise from Nigeria’s music scene to international prominence. The Obama Presidential Center is scheduled to open to the public on June 19 and will feature a museum, educational facilities, public spaces, sporting amenities, and a range of community-focused attractions expected to draw visitors from around the world.
