‘The Ring’ Actress Daveigh Chase Dies at 35 From Meningitis Complications

American actress Daveigh Chase has died at the age of 35 following complications from meningitis. She was best known for her role as the long-haired ghost Samara in the horror film The Ring, particularly the iconic scene where the character crawls out of a television screen. She reportedly passed away on Tuesday.

Her longtime manager, John Ryan Jr., confirmed her death during an interview with BBC News, stating that she had initially been taken to the hospital for malnutrition. He said her condition later worsened, developing into a bloodstream infection that eventually led to sepsis.

Ryan described Chase as deeply kind and passionate about animal welfare, noting that she loved cats and had worked with their team on cat rescue efforts. He added that she enjoyed simple routines, including eating at Bob’s Big Boy, and preferred a quiet life away from fame.

Chase rose to prominence for her chilling performance in The Ring, a role that made her one of the most recognisable child actors in early 2000s horror cinema. Despite the character’s notoriety, she often expressed appreciation for the creative challenge the role presented.

In a past interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2002, she explained that she enjoyed portraying the character Samara because it was unlike typical roles for child actors. She said she adapted her own voice with a “freaky twist” to bring the character to life.

Her death has drawn attention to both her early success in Hollywood and the lasting impact of her performance, which remains one of the most memorable elements of The Ring franchise.
