Troops, DSS, Immigration Service Arrest 46 Foreign Nationals in Ogun Over Alleged Illegal Stay

Troops of the Nigerian Army, working alongside operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants during coordinated operations in Ogun State.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led security operation which began on 11 June 2026 and was carried out across several communities, including Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and surrounding areas.

According to a statement by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, Idereghi Samuel Akari, the exercise was part of a targeted security sweep aimed at identifying and apprehending undocumented foreign nationals.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been residing in the state for about six months without valid immigration documents. During interrogation, they reportedly claimed to be merchants and workers linked to QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various products.

The arrested individuals comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 nationals of Côte d’Ivoire, four nationals of Togo, and one national of Senegal. The group includes 36 males and 10 females.

The statement added that the suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and administrative procedures in line with existing laws.
