Fresh attacks has claimed the lives of at least 10 people in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State following separate attacks on two communities by suspected armed herders.
Information available to DIP CONNECT NEWS indicates that the first incident occurred on Saturday at Akpachi village in the Ugboju area, where two residents were reportedly killed. Several others were also wounded during the assault.
In another attack that occurred before dawn on Sunday, the gunmen reportedly invaded Otukpo Nobi community, leaving eight more people dead and many others with injuries.
The back-to-back attacks have heightened tension across the local government, prompting scores of residents and youths to stage a protest at the Och'Idoma Palace. The protesters appealed to the government and security agencies to take decisive measures to end the recurring violence in the area.
The renewed attacks come weeks after the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, and his associate, Yakubu Isah, who were attacked near Okwudu after attending a peace meeting in Ohimini Local Government Area.
