Corps Members have been urged to maximise the opportunities presented by the service year to acquire relevant skills, develop an entrepreneurial mindset and become successful business owners.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave the charge while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream One Corps Members at the Anambra State NYSC Orientation Camp.

He advised them to build lasting relationships that would extend beyond the service year and leverage available business opportunities for wealth creation.

General Nafiu also urged the Corps Members to embrace diligence and acquire as many skills as possible while they were still young, stressing the need to diversify their income sources to meet their financial needs.

He said relying on a single source of income might not be sufficient to meet their daily needs, urging them to explore other legitimate avenues for financial growth.

In his words, “Open your eyes, make friends and leverage comparative advantage. Buy shares for long-term investments.”

The Director-General further encouraged the Corps Members to make meaningful contributions to their host communities and take pride in the teaching profession by imparting knowledge to members of the communities where they would serve.

In her camp situation report, the NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, disclosed that a total of 1,623 Corps Members, had been registered for the exercise.

“They have been disciplined, cooperative and supportive, voluntarily serving on various committees and contributing positively to the smooth running of the Orientation Camp,” she added.

Ojisua appreciated the Director-General for his visit, describing it as a source of encouragement to both the Corps Members and camp officials.
