Former Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to defeat Rwanda in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Kigali this March.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Kada Unity Cup at the Etete Sports Complex in Benin City, Igbinedion emphasized that Nigeria's presence at the World Cup is crucial, stating that the national team has enough talented players to secure qualification.
"Rwanda Shouldn’t Give Us Sleepless Nights"
Igbinedion reassured Nigerians that the Super Eagles have the quality and experience to secure a victory against Rwanda, provided the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the technical crew make the right decisions.
"We are very passionate about our Super Eagles, and every right-thinking Nigerian wants to see our flag hoisted at the 2026 World Cup. We have young, talented players excelling in Europe, so qualifying shouldn’t be a problem. If our football authorities do the right thing, Rwanda will not be an obstacle," he stated.
Kada Unity Cup: Promoting Unity Through Football
While declaring the Kada Unity Cup open, Igbinedion highlighted football’s role in fostering unity among military and paramilitary organizations in Edo State.
"Football is a unifying force. It keeps our young uniformed personnel mentally and physically fit, which enhances their job performance. The turnout today is proof of how much this competition means to the community," he said.
He also commended the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for their efforts, revealing that the competition will continue annually and may soon expand to include participants from other states.
The Kada Unity Cup, which began in 2023, aims to strengthen teamwork and sportsmanship among security personnel while offering incentives for participation.
