A cholera outbreak in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has claimed four lives, with several others currently receiving treatment in various healthcare centres.
Confirming the development on Monday in Jos, the Executive Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Mr. Amalau Amalau, disclosed that the outbreak had affected communities including Hurti, Bokkos West, Bokkos Central, and Mangol.
Amalau stated that the Primary Health Care Department, in collaboration with cottage hospitals, is actively managing the situation. “Yes, we have an outbreak of cholera in some communities in Bokkos, but efforts are ongoing to tackle the challenge,” he said.
He revealed that while some patients are recuperating, others have already been discharged. “So far, we have lost about four persons. We have two confirmed cases in Hurti community, as well as in Bokkos West, Bokkos Central, and Mangol.”
The chairman urged residents to observe caution and follow international health guidelines, stressing the importance of good hygiene practices such as handwashing, clean water consumption, and proper washing of vegetables and fruits.
He further advised residents to promptly report any symptoms to the nearest Primary Health Centre or referral centres in cottage hospitals across Bokkos.
