The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared a three-day national mourning period to honour the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London.
In a statement issued on Monday in Kano, the party’s Interim National Chairman, Sen. David Mark, announced that all political activities at the national and state levels would be suspended during the mourning period.
Mark described Buhari as a statesman of exceptional character whose life was defined by unwavering service to Nigeria in both military and civilian roles.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a brave soldier who defended the unity and territorial integrity of our nation. As a democratically elected president, he made significant contributions to the growth and consolidation of democracy in Nigeria. His leadership reflected discipline, commitment, and patriotism,” he stated.
The ADC chairman also called on the Federal Government to take steps to immortalise Buhari through monuments, institutions, or initiatives that reflect the values he stood for.
Mark extended the party’s deepest condolences to the Buhari family, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and all Nigerians mourning his passing.
He urged all ADC members and supporters across the country to observe the mourning period with solemnity and respect.
