FG Sets 16 as Minimum Age for University and Polytechnic Admission

The Federal Government has officially set 16 years as the minimum age for admission into Nigeria’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced this on Tuesday during the ongoing Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.

Alausa emphasized that the age requirement is non-negotiable and must be strictly enforced by all tertiary institutions nationwide. He also warned universities, polytechnics, and colleges against admitting students outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), declaring such actions illegal.

He further cautioned that any head of institution who circumvents CAPS or manipulates the admission process will face prosecution.
