Nollywood film Oversabi Aunty has crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the box office, emerging as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
The announcement was made by distributor FilmOne on Instagram, revealing that the movie has earned ₦1,017,201,953 in cinemas across West Africa. The feat also makes Oversabi Aunty the first Nollywood directorial debut to hit the ₦1 billion milestone.
In a celebratory post, FilmOne thanked audiences across the region for their support, describing the achievement as a “full celebration” and a major victory for the Nigerian film industry.
The milestone sparked widespread excitement on social media. Actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington wrote, “Yassssss,” while a fan, #stunnurse1, commented, “That’s true ooo first directorial debut to hit a billion.”
Another user, #tung_styn, wrote, “Can there be two queens pls … THIS is beyond amazing and extraordinary … God bless her and her supporters …,” while #olaniyielizabeth_ added, “Somebody hold me ….”
Others joined the celebration, with #lammie_artt writing, “Yayyyyyyy! Body dey sweet me,” and #kingdi_allijnr urging, “WELDONE WB LET’S TOP IT UP BEFORE IT LEAVES CINEMA.”
The film grossed over ₦711 million in 18 days, already ranking it as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood movie before reaching the ₦1 billion landmark.
The latest figures further cement Oversabi Aunty as one of the most successful films in Nollywood history and a defining moment for first-time directors in the industry.
