Police Arrest Ore Clinic Operators Over Death of Pregnant Woman in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a couple, Kehinde Olawuyi and Eniola Olawuyi, in connection with the death of a 28-year-old pregnant woman identified simply as Iyanu at their clinic in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The police disclosed that the suspects were allegedly operating an illegal medical facility where the deceased had gone to deliver her baby.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police said the woman reportedly lost a large quantity of blood after the suspects mishandled the delivery process, leading to her death.

According to the statement, a report was received on January 18, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., from a concerned resident of the Sabo area of Odigbo, alleging that the couple were running an unlicensed clinic at Orita, Odigbo.

“The report stated that the suspects admitted one Iyanu, a 28-year-old woman, on January 4, 2026, at about 12:00 noon, for delivery at the said illegal facility.

“It was further alleged that the suspects mishandled the medical procedure in an unprofessional manner, which caused the victim to become unconscious and bleed profusely,” Jimoh said.

He added that the victim was immediately rushed to another medical facility in Odigbo for emergency treatment, but she was later confirmed dead despite the efforts of medical personnel.

The police spokesperson disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were not registered medical practitioners, confirming that the clinic was being operated illegally.

He said the couple are currently in police custody, while investigations have commenced into the incident.

“The case is under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” he added.

The incident has renewed concerns over the proliferation of illegal medical facilities and the dangers they pose to pregnant women and other patients in the state.
