Sanwo-Olu Strengthens Lagos Emergency Response with 150 New Firefighters

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of 150 personnel into the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) to enhance emergency response across the state.

The LSFRS Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos. She said the new recruitment highlights the state government’s continued commitment to building a resilient, well-equipped, and professionally trained fire and rescue service.

“This latest recruitment follows earlier landmark recruitments under the Sanwo-Olu-led government, including the engagement of 100 firefighters in 2020 and 435 firefighters in 2022, the single largest recruitment in the history of the Fire Service,” Adeseye said.

She added that the newly recruited firefighters, employed in November 2025, have resumed intensive training at the upgraded LSFRS Fire Academy. They are currently undergoing the Professional Basic Firefighting Competency and Short Service Course.

The Controller General reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to investing in human capacity development, modern infrastructure, and operational equipment to ensure the safety of residents across Lagos State.
