APC Explains Delay in Formal Reception of Rivers Governor Fubara

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has explained why Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has not yet been officially welcomed into the party.

Yilwatda gave the explanation while speaking on TVC Politics, stating that the delay was due to strategic and religious considerations linked to the forthcoming Ramadan fast.

According to him, the party decided to first receive governors from the northern part of the country who recently defected to the APC because of the sensitivity of the Ramadan period.

“We decided to clear the North first because Ramadan is coming, and most of the people in the North are Muslims. Ramadan is a very sensitive period, so we pleaded that we finish with the northern governors who defected before moving to the South,” he said.

The APC chairman emphasised that the move was deliberate and based on respect for Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity.

He also dismissed claims that the delay was connected to internal party power struggles or the influence of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

“It has nothing to do with Sim not having control. It is about strategy and understanding the sensitivities of each community,” Yilwatda added.
