Gunmen have abducted six worshippers during a midnight service at the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday while worshippers were observing a church service. Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the abduction took place at about 12:50 a.m. on February 25.
According to Jimoh, the assailants took the victims to an undisclosed location.
“Upon receiving the report, operatives of the Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” the police spokesperson said.
He added that the sustained joint security effort has already yielded results, with one of the kidnapped worshippers successfully rescued.
The latest incident comes amid growing security concerns in Ondo State. Just four days earlier, gunmen abducted a couple at Ilu-Abo in Akure North Local Government Area.
In another recent attack, the Alagamo of Agamo, Kehinde Falodun, was shot dead when gunmen invaded his palace in Akure North Local Government Area.
The spate of attacks has heightened fears among residents, particularly over the safety of worship centres and rural communities across the state.
