Justice Hussaini Belgore of the FCT High Court has stepped down from presiding over the fundamental human rights suit filed by former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai after announcing his decision to proceed on leave.
Following his withdrawal, Justice Belgore ordered that the case file be returned to the Chief Judge for reassignment to another judge, who will continue proceedings from where the matter was last adjourned.
El-Rufai’s suit seeks judicial protection of his fundamental rights and challenges actions allegedly taken against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
With the development, the bail hearing earlier scheduled to take place before Justice Belgore will no longer hold. The matter will remain pending until it is reassigned and a fresh hearing date is fixed by the new judge.
