Nigeria’s Public Service Watchdog Praises Youth Corps for Raising Standards in Citizen Service Delivery

The SERVICOM National Office has commended the National Youth Service Corps for significant progress in service delivery, particularly improvements recorded during orientation camp operations such as feeding and welfare services for corps members.

The recognition was announced by Nnenna Akajemeli during the opening of the 2025 Second Quarter Networking Meeting for Desk Officers in Abuja, themed “Leveraging SERVICOM Principles for Effective and Efficient Service Delivery in NYSC.” She was represented at the event by SERVICOM’s Head of Operations, Ngozi Akinbodewa, who described the NYSC as one of the federal agencies demonstrating strong commitment to quality service and responsiveness to citizens.

In his remarks, the NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, reaffirmed the scheme’s determination to maintain and enhance its service standards nationwide. Represented by Chinwendu Chukwu, Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, the DG said the workshop was more than a routine exercise, calling it a renewed mandate for officers to uphold professionalism, integrity, and strict compliance with SERVICOM principles.

He emphasized that desk officers serve as a vital bridge between the scheme and the public and urged them to continually evaluate their engagement with stakeholders to strengthen public trust and institutional credibility.

Participants at the workshop were drawn from NYSC’s national headquarters, the Federal Capital Territory, and all 36 state secretariats, reflecting the scheme’s nationwide service framework.
