Prominent businessman and socialite Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has been appointed as the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
Obi Cubana shared the news on Tuesday via his official Instagram page, revealing that Seyi Tinubu visited him at his residence on Monday night to personally present the certificate of appointment. The visit also provided a platform for both men to discuss various national issues.
“Last night, my long-time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu, paid me a visit at my home. We held great conversations about everything,” he wrote.
Addressing the mixed reactions to his appointment, Obi Cubana defended his decision, stating that meaningful change comes from active engagement rather than isolation.
“I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart,” he said.
The nightlife entrepreneur emphasised that his new role would not compromise his dedication to integrity, community development, and responsible leadership. “I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside, so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through, inside and out,” he added.
Obi Cubana described President Tinubu as “a City Boy and a man of commerce” and expressed his commitment to inclusivity in carrying out his duties. “All of us need all of us in order to achieve our national aspirations, and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do,” he said.
The socialite also urged Nigerians to respect differing opinions while focusing on creating tangible value for national development. “Let’s respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value. The moment is now, we move!”
He concluded by thanking his supporters for their goodwill and pledging to work towards a more inclusive future.
