The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has uncovered a suspected child-trafficking operation allegedly operating under the guise of an orphanage in the Saburi area of Abuja.
The discovery followed a petition submitted on January 29, 2026, by concerned community members to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, drawing attention to unusual activities linked to the facility. Police said they immediately launched a discreet and thorough investigation after receiving the complaint.
Preliminary findings indicate the orphanage allegedly targeted families in rural communities, promising children access to education and better living conditions in urban areas. Authorities suspect the operation may have been used to move children to undisclosed locations within Nigeria.
So far, 21 of the 46 children connected to the case have been rescued and are currently undergoing processes aimed at safe reunification with their families. Security operatives say efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining children and arrest all individuals involved.
The Command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, warning that not every offer of sponsorship or educational support is legitimate. It also commended residents of Saburi for their cooperation and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines: 08028940883 and 08032003913.
Police reiterated that the protection and welfare of children remain a top priority and pledged continued action against crimes targeting vulnerable persons.
