Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema, born Divine Ikubor, has shared details about his pre-performance rituals.
In an interview with Dazed during Milan Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Diesel, the artiste disclosed that he drinks alcohol, smokes cigarettes, prays, and checks in with his team before stepping on stage.
“A little tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue,” he said when asked about his routine.
Rema explained that performing is more stressful than modeling on the runway, noting that live shows demand strong breath control and constant energy to keep the audience engaged.
Speaking on his recent musical influences, he added that he has been listening to a lot of Sudanese cultural live music. He also admitted that smoking cigarettes is his “biggest vice.”
