A fire outbreak has engulfed the old terminal of the international airport in Lagos, a facility currently undergoing a multi-billion-naira renovation.

Details surrounding the incident were still unclear at the time of filing this report. The affected terminal, part of the airport’s older infrastructure, is being upgraded as part of ongoing efforts to improve facilities and passenger experience.

Confirming the development, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Henry Agbebire, said officials were already on ground managing the situation.

“We are aware of the outbreak, and we are there right now. We will publish a statement right now,” he said, adding that emergency responders had been deployed to prevent further damage.

“Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to curtail the situation,” he stated.

Agbebire assured the public that no casualties had been recorded. “No loss of lives has been recorded. Further updates will be recorded,” he added.

Passengers and airport users have been urged to remain calm while authorities work to extinguish the fire completely and assess the extent of damage. Further details are expected once officials release a formal statement.
