The Iranian men’s football team is still planning to take part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, Asian football officials confirmed on Monday, despite warnings that their safety could be at risk.
President Donald Trump cautioned on Thursday that the team’s “life and safety” could be endangered if they attend the tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The warning came amid heightened tensions following US-Israeli strikes on February 28, which have raised concerns over Iran’s participation.
