The Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected gunrunner, Kelvin Dugo, in Cross River State while allegedly attempting to take delivery of hundreds of rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect was apprehended at Ivara Esu Estate in Odukpani Local Government Area following credible intelligence about his plan to procure 832 rounds of ammunition. According to a DSS statement released on Tuesday, the consignment was reportedly supplied by another suspected gunrunner, Azenda Barnabas, also known as Jagaban, believed to be operating from Aliade in Benue State.
“The operatives intercepted Dugo moments after he received the consignment, which was concealed in food items. Recovered were 832 rounds of ammunition and two empty AK-47 magazines,” a source disclosed.
The arrest is part of ongoing DSS operations to combat illegal arms proliferation and dismantle gunrunning networks across the country. It comes amid intensified national security efforts to curb the flow of weapons linked to rising banditry, kidnappings, and communal violence.
In recent months, the DSS has stepped up intelligence-driven operations targeting suspected gunrunners and arms trafficking networks across multiple states, highlighting the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public security and preventing armed crime.
