The Federal Government of Nigeria has secured a landmark partnership with the United Kingdom’s Coventry University to establish a campus in Nigeria, offering affordable, globally recognised degrees through a Transnational Education (TNE) initiative.
Announcing the development, the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, said he is currently in the UK accompanying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to engage with university leaders, investors, and development partners to advance the initiative.
The proposed campus, to be located in Alaro City, Lagos State, will provide Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine), Business, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). All degrees will hold the same academic equivalence as those awarded in the UK. Admissions are projected to begin in the third or fourth quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
Minister Alausa emphasised the benefits for Nigerian families, stating: “We want Nigerian parents to enjoy their children being at home while still receiving a world-class UK education.”
The initiative aims to expand local access to high-quality education at significantly reduced costs, strengthen skills development, and enhance graduate employability. The Ministry, supported by the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, said the project will position Nigeria as a hub for knowledge, innovation, and global competitiveness in education.
