Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Nasir El-Rufai, has died, the family confirmed on Friday.
Her grandson broke the news in a heartfelt post on Facebook, saying: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago.”
He paid tribute to her life, describing her as a gentle soul, and requested prayers from the public for her repose: “We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you.”
Details surrounding the circumstances of her death have not yet been disclosed.
The announcement comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving her son, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission following his re-arrest after an initial detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
