The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly traced multi-billion naira properties in Egypt allegedly linked to Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, Nigeria, as part of its ongoing investigation into financial impropriety.
According to sources, investigators have identified six high-value properties in Cairo, including three luxury villas and six apartments located in upscale suburbs such as New Cairo, known for estates like Arabella Estate, Banafsik Estate, Oriana Estate, and Cairo Festival City.
Market estimates suggest the villas could be valued between 50 million and 200 million Egyptian pounds each (roughly ₦5.3 billion), while the apartments are worth approximately 26 million Egyptian pounds (around ₦700 million). The properties are said to have been acquired between 2021 and 2023, during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor.
El-Rufai’s legal team has vehemently denied the allegations, describing the claims as unverified media leaks and a politically motivated smear campaign. His lawyers argue that no verifiable evidence links him to the Egyptian properties and have called on the ICPC to either release him or formally charge him in court.
The former governor remains in ICPC custody as the commission continues its investigation. The ICPC itself has not yet released an official statement, with current reports based on sources familiar with the inquiry.
The development has sparked widespread discussion across media platforms, raising questions about alleged financial dealings of public officials abroad and the transparency of ongoing anti-corruption investigations in Nigeria.
