Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has stated that he does not have any preferred candidates among the aspirants contesting for elective positions in the upcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
Speaking during a Ramadan breaking ceremony with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday night, the Governor urged aspirants to seek the support of party members and promised to respect the outcomes of the primaries scheduled between April and May 2026.
“My advice to every aspirant seeking any office is to get the support of party members. I have no anointed candidates in the coming primaries. I will abide by what the people decide,” Governor Sani said. He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is his only candidate and pledged to support his re-election in 2027.
Governor Sani further advised aspirants who do not win in the primaries to resist working against the party, warning that doing so would be counterproductive. He recalled being shortchanged in a previous APC congress during the former administration, when many of his supporters were denied party positions, and stressed that he did not act against the party.
“At that time, some people wanted me to work against the party. I told them that I wouldn’t work against the house I helped build. As God would have it, I am the Governor today. I advise every party member to work for the victory of APC. The opposition will try to exploit the primaries, but we must resist. The party belongs to all of us,” he said.
The Governor also addressed security challenges, cautioning that opposition parties may attempt to use the issue against APC in the 2027 elections. He said security in Kaduna State has been improving since his administration assumed office in 2023, while acknowledging that more work remains.
Highlighting his administration’s developmental efforts, Governor Sani said 535 schools and 85 health facilities that were previously closed due to insecurity have been reopened. He also mentioned ongoing infrastructure projects, including the 35-kilometer Bagoma-Gagumi road, which will connect 62 farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, and the Mando to Birnin Gwari road, for which a contract has been awarded.
