The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed allegations of certificate forgery levelled against the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following what it described as an exhaustive investigation into the claims.
The police said there was no evidence to support accusations that the minister falsified his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
The clarification comes after protests were staged in parts of the country calling on authorities to investigate allegations that Tunji-Ojo had forged both his NYSC certificate and his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) secondary school certificate.
Speaking on the outcome of the investigation, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the allegations were thoroughly examined and found to be unfounded.
“After an exhaustive investigation into the allegations, it has been established that there is no evidence whatsoever of forgery, altercation, falsification or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate,” Hundeyin said.
He further disclosed that the NYSC was contacted during the investigation and confirmed that the certificate in question was legitimately issued to the minister.
“The NYSC was contacted and it was verified that the certificate was duly issued by the corps to the minister. The allegations are therefore unfounded,” he added.
Dip Connect Online News reports that the development follows an earlier verification by WAEC in January this year after similar allegations were raised regarding the minister’s secondary school certificate.
The WAEC attestation document bears Tunji-Ojo’s full name, date of birth, embossed photograph, original certificate number and official authentication markings.
According to the document titled Attestation of Results, Tunji-Ojo attended Staff Secondary School at the Federal University of Technology Akure and sat for the Senior Secondary School Examination in June 1999.
The results show he obtained B3 in Economics, B2 in Mathematics, A1 in Agricultural Science, B3 in Biology, C6 in Chemistry, C6 in English Language, A1 in Yoruba Language, C6 in Further Mathematics, and B3 in Physics.
With both WAEC and NYSC confirming the authenticity of the documents, the allegations against the interior minister have been officially dismissed by the police.
