Rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to be released from federal prison earlier than initially scheduled, according to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. His new release date is now April 25, 2028, a significant adjustment from the previous June 4, 2028 projection.
Combs, 54, has been serving a 50-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey after being convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of racketeering and sex‑trafficking charges. He was also fined $500,000.
The early release is reportedly linked to Combs’ participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a federal rehabilitation initiative that allows inmates to earn a reduction in sentence upon successful completion. His legal team said he has been “fully engaged” in the program and committed to his rehabilitation efforts.
In addition to serving his sentence, Combs is actively pursuing an appeal to overturn or reduce his conviction, arguing that the charges were insufficiently proven and that his sentence was excessive. Prosecutors, however, have opposed the appeal.
The news of the adjusted release has drawn widespread attention from fans and the media, highlighting both Combs’ ongoing rehabilitation and his continued legal challenges. His representatives have called for respect for his privacy during this period.
The rapper’s early release underscores the federal system’s provisions for rehabilitation and sentence reduction for eligible inmates, and comes as Combs remains engaged in efforts to secure relief through the courts.
