Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has opened up about a deeply personal decision she made decades ago regarding childbirth and family planning.
The actress revealed that she underwent a medical procedure to prevent herself from having more children because she did not want to raise a large family.
Bello made the disclosure during a conversation about motherhood on her YouTube channel, Shaffy Bello TV, where she reflected on her experiences as a mother and the choices she made about expanding her family.
According to the actress, she decided to undergo the procedure about 26 years ago after concluding that she did not want to have many children. She explained that while her former husband wanted them to grow their family, she remained firm in her decision to stop having more children.
“My ex-husband had to beg me to have another one. I didn’t want a lot of children. I wanted to stop,” she said.
The actress further explained that the procedure involved doctors going through her navel to tie her fallopian tubes, a process that permanently prevents pregnancy.
Describing the operation, Bello said the doctors accessed her abdomen through her navel and tied her tubes, effectively stopping the release of eggs needed for conception.
“So they went through my navel, went in there, did what they needed to do, and they tied it up. That was it. They closed my eggs,” she said.
