Students of the College of Nursing at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) have threatened to protest following reports of a drastic increase in school fees from ₦90,000 to ₦580,000.
The proposed hike, which represents more than a six‑fold increase, has sparked outrage among students, who argue that it imposes an unbearable financial burden on them and their families. They claim the decision was made without adequate consultation or justification.
In response, student leaders have announced plans to stage demonstrations on campus to press management to review or reverse the fee increase.
Authorities at the College of Nursing Sciences confirmed that they are aware of the concerns raised by students and are engaging in dialogue with student representatives to address the issue. However, no formal reversal of the fees has been announced.
The dispute at NAUTH reflects a broader trend in Nigeria, where students at universities and teaching hospitals have increasingly voiced concerns over rising educational costs and access to professional training in the country.
As the situation develops, both students and management are calling for constructive engagement to ensure that training remains accessible while addressing the financial sustainability of the institution.
