Zamfara Deputy Governor Confirms Defection to APC

The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Mallam Mummuni, has confirmed that the state leadership has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mummuni made the announcement in a video message circulating online, stating that he was speaking on behalf of Governor Dauda Lawal and confirming that the decision was taken by the state’s leadership to align with the ruling party.

The development ends months of speculation over whether the Zamfara governor and his political allies would leave the PDP. Political observers say the move could further strengthen the APC’s political influence across Nigeria.

Analysts also believe the defection may signal the beginning of broader political realignments ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general elections, as politicians and parties begin repositioning across the country.

Mummuni and Governor Lawal were elected in 2023 under the platform of the PDP before the latest development that has now shifted the state’s political leadership to the APC.

The defection is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape in the North-West region as parties continue to strategise ahead of future elections.
