Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that he would prefer his children to build careers within his father’s business empire rather than pursue a future in the entertainment industry.
The singer made the disclosure during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, where he reflected on his own journey into music and the challenges he faced early in his career.
According to him, his preference is influenced by the lack of initial support he received from his father when he chose music, as well as his desire for his children to experience a more stable path.
When asked whether he would want his children to join the entertainment industry or work with their grandfather, Davido responded:
“Omo, go and work with my dad. Every Christmas, my dad takes all the grandkids with him… and I can see his happiness is just being with them. That’s what life is about.”
He explained that while his father’s initial resistance to his music career affected him emotionally, it eventually strengthened his determination to succeed.
“My dad not wanting me in entertainment really killed my joy at first, until he realised I was serious about it. I wouldn’t want to do that to my own kids,” he said.
Despite his preference, the singer stressed that he would not stop his children if they choose to follow his footsteps in music or entertainment, adding that he would instead give them full support.
He also noted that his daughter has already shown early interest in music through singing and dancing, suggesting that talent may still shape their future paths regardless of his preference.
