Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, has said Nigeria’s electricity supply has improved compared to previous years, noting that many Nigerians now enjoy more power than they did in 2015 and 2023.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Bwala acknowledged that while challenges persist in the power sector, there have been noticeable improvements in supply in some parts of the country, particularly within the Federal Capital Territory.
He noted that public complaints about electricity often centre more on tariff increases rather than outright lack of supply in certain areas.
According to him, ongoing reforms by the Federal Government have opened up the electricity sector, allowing greater participation from states, local governments, and private investors in both power generation and distribution.
“We have created the legislative environment that has given rise to the capacity of states, local governments, and even the private sector to participate in both generation and distribution of power,” he said.
Bwala further argued that the performance of the sector should be assessed based on actual electricity delivery to consumers, rather than political timelines or comparisons.
He maintained that what matters most to Nigerians is the number of hours of electricity available to them daily, insisting that there has been measurable progress in recent years despite lingering concerns.
