Joseph Aloba, father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has alleged that he has been denied access to his grandson, Liam, since the artiste’s death, amid ongoing family disputes.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Aloba said he has had no contact with the child, claiming that communication between him and his late son’s partner has remained strained.
“There’s nothing like that. Since Mohbad died, the lady has been carrying the baby everywhere. I don’t have access to him,” he said.
His remarks come against the backdrop of lingering disagreements between Mohbad’s family and his partner over custody and other related issues following the singer’s passing.
Aloba also reflected on his relationship with Mohbad’s partner while the singer was alive, noting that he initially accepted her after being introduced by his son.
“When you love your son, you must also love who he loves,” he said, adding that he welcomed her upon learning she was pregnant.
He, however, recounted confusion surrounding the couple’s introduction ceremony, stating that the arrangement appeared different from what he had initially been told.
Aloba further claimed that Mohbad had, at some point, distanced him from certain family matters, alleging that the singer had expressed concerns about his relationship at the time.
