Tinubu Appoints New PTDF Boss, Renews TCN MD’s Tenure

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

Professor Aliyu succeeds Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently stepped down from the role to pursue his ambition in the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

In a related development, the President also renewed the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term. Both appointments take immediate effect.

Prior to his new role, Professor Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. He is widely regarded as a seasoned academic and administrator, with extensive experience spanning research, education, and institutional leadership.

His appointment, according to the presidency, reflects a commitment to strengthening critical institutions in Nigeria’s petroleum sector and enhancing capacity development within the energy industry. The President has tasked him with leveraging his expertise to reposition the PTDF for greater impact in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities.

Meanwhile, the renewal of Engineer Abdulaziz’s tenure follows what the presidency described as a comprehensive assessment of his performance leading the country’s transmission network. Under his leadership, TCN has recorded improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing system modernisation key factors in Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

With over three decades of experience in the power sector, Abdulaziz has also played a significant role in advancing regional electricity integration through his involvement in the West African Power Pool (WAPP).

President Tinubu has urged both appointees to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of national service, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
