Omah Lay Declares Himself Nigeria’s Best Artist of the Last 20 Years Ahead of New Album Release

Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has boldly declared himself the best Nigerian artist of the last two decades, naming only Burna Boy as a peer who comes close to his level.

The statement came during a recent interview with Nandoleaks ahead of the release of his highly anticipated album, Clarity of Mind. Speaking with confidence about his standing in the industry, Omah Lay dismissed comparisons with other artists while asserting his creative dominance.

“I don’t want to brag too much, but I am the best at this. When you put the whole Afrobeats artist category…When it comes to art, like making music, I am the best of the last 20 years, maybe the only person that sometimes I put myself with his Burna Boy,” he said.

Omah Lay emphasized that Burna Boy is the only contemporary artist he considers worthy of comparison, reinforcing his belief in his own creative superiority.

The remarks align with his previous statements. In 2025, he described himself as the greatest of his generation, promising that his upcoming album would provide evidence for this claim. During the same interview, he also called Clarity of Mind the greatest Afrobeats album of all time, reflecting his high level of confidence in the project.

The album’s creation has not been without hurdles. In 2024, Omah Lay revealed that he scrapped an earlier version after alleging that another artist used a sound he had shared. He has since released several singles in preparation for the album, including Holyghost (2024), Waist (2025), and Don’t Love Me. All tracks are slated to feature on the 12-track album, scheduled for release on April 3, 2026.

On the project, Omah Lay explained that Clarity of Mind is deeply personal, addressing themes such as mental health and relationships. Like his debut album Boy Alone, the new record promises introspection and emotional depth.

He insisted that this album represents his most honest work to date, expressing confidence that it will be a defining moment in contemporary Nigerian pop music.
